March 2023 – Currently nearing completion, the New Lebanese Army Naval Academy at Jounieh Naval Base involves the construction of a new Naval Academy. Funded by the German government, the project was inspected this month by the German Commander of UNIFIL’s Maritime Task Force in Lebanon, Rear Admiral Michael Busse, the commander of German naval forces, Rear Admiral Jaan Kaack, German military attaché Lieutenant Colonel Heino Matzken, the Lebanese Commander of the base as well as senior Lebanese Navy officers, who were all very pleased with the progress of the works.
