The old souks of Beirut that were destroyed during the Lebanese civil war were reconstructed at their original location following an international architectural competition that was awarded to the world - renown architect Raphael Moneo and British architect Kevin Dash. The construction, awarded to Hourie in 2005 will be completed in early 2009. This project is the commercial centerpiece of the Beirut Central District developed by Solidere. The Souks are located in the heart of the Beirut Central District. The project consists of a variety of shops, retail areas, supermarkets, souks (Ayass, Al-Tawilé, Al-Jamil) gold & jewelry shops and office buildings, englobing pedestrian streets an piazzas.
